One of the biggest challenges that we face in our industry is how few people know how to take care of their hearing.
Each year, we make sure to get our eyesight checked, our teeth cleaned, and our physical health examined, but when was your last hearing test?
Hearing care often falls by the wayside, as we associate hearing loss with the older generation. This holds some credence, as age-related hearing loss (presbycusis) is the number one cause of hearing loss across the nation.
But hearing loss can affect anyone, regardless of their age, and be caused by noise exposure, ototoxic medication reactions, illness, genetic predisposition, and more.
Thankfully, we’ve seen firsthand that many people in our Tulare County community have realized the benefits of taking care of their hearing—at which point they often ask themselves, “Why didn’t I do this sooner?”
We asked a couple of our previous patients to share their hearing health journeys with us so that we can share them with you, hopefully inspiring you to kickstart your journey to better hearing alongside them.
Our first story comes from Debbie and her mother, who were on the hunt for a passionate audiologist at a busy time.
Debbie’s family had just moved to the Central Valley, and her mom was having some issues with her hearing. Despite it being the holiday season when Debbie requested an appointment, we managed to get her mom seen as soon as possible.
“Dr. Finnegan was thorough, quick, nice, professional and reasonable. It was worth paying a few extra dollars to get her ears cleaned vs making an appt with an ENT and going through insurance!” she says.
Debbie and her mom were impressed with our team’s level of service and know they’ll be headed back for more visits in the future.
“We have been to other audiologists, and we always felt like we were just a number,” Debbie says. “Dr. Finnegan and his staff made us feel like we were family!”
Our next story comes from Wayne, who saw little success with over-the-counter hearing aids.
