Hearing Adoption

Already Have Hearing Aids? We Need to Talk.

Not every hearing aid wearer had the same starting point, and not every clinic is the right long-term home. If you’re wearing hearing aids that weren’t purchased at Visalia Hearing Center and you’re looking for a new provider, you may be in exactly the right place. Our Hearing Aid Adoption Program exists for patients who want the boutique, audiologist-led care experience that leads to truly optimal hearing outcomes. We’ll be upfront about who we can help and who we can’t. We believe that kind of honesty is rare in our industry, but it’s exactly what you deserve.

Who We Cannot Help

We’d rather be straight with you now than waste your time. Unfortunately, there are several categories of hearing aids we are simply unable to adopt into our program. To be clear, for each of the following categories we absolutely can help you, but you’d need new prescriptive hearing aids for us to assist.

Over-the-Counter (OTC) Hearing Aids

OTC devices were designed specifically to remove the professional from the equation; that’s their entire purpose. Because of that, there is genuinely nothing any Audiologist can do to improve how they sound or perform for you. If you’ve tried OTC hearing aids and struggled (and most people do), the next step is a prescriptive hearing aid fitting with a Doctor of Audiology. That’s where we come in.

Internet-Purchased Hearing Aids

There are well-documented gray and black markets for name-brand prescriptive hearing aids online. Platforms such as eBay and OfferUp frequently list prescriptive devices at unusually low prices; many of these are stolen devices or instruments reported as lost through insurance fraud. The legal and technical risks are simply too significant for us to take on, and so we respectfully decline to program these devices.

Our advice to anyone who purchased name-brand prescriptive hearing aids over the internet is to get your money back and find an in-person clinic to work with.

Miracle-Ear Hearing Aids

Miracle-Ear devices are locked Signia instruments. Only licensed Miracle-Ear retail locations can program them. If you’re unhappy with your Miracle-Ear devices or service, your options are limited until you choose to move to a new provider with new devices.

Hear.com Hearing Aids

Hear.com devices are generic Signia hearing aids requiring locked proprietary software. As with Miracle-Ear, independent clinics cannot access or program them. (As an aside: Maybe you’ve seen their long-running headlines about “German hearing aids taking the world by storm.” We’ve been watching those claims for a decade too. We’re still waiting.) Again, your options are limited until you choose to move to a new, in-person clinic and purchase new devices.

Kirkland Signature (Costco) Hearing Aids

Costco’s Kirkland Signature hearing aids (and any hearing aid purchased at Costco) can only be programmed using proprietary software that is exclusively available to Costco warehouses. Private clinics do not have access to it. If you’ve tried Costco hearing aids and they’re not delivering the results you need (which happens more often than you might think) new prescription devices from a private clinic will be the path forward.

AGX (Audigy Network) Hearing Aids

AGX-O, AGX-S, and AGX-R devices are proprietary locked instruments that can only be programmed by practices within the Audigy network. We are not part of that network and are unable to service these aids.

UnTru-Hearing Generic Hearing Aids

UnTru Hearing Generic Hearing Aids are typically acquired via Medicare Advantage HMO insurance programs. Similar to Miracle Ear and Hear.com, these are generic Signia hearing aids requiring manufacturer-specific software that is not available to independent clinics.

Who We Can Help

Our Adoption Program is designed specifically for patients who already have name-brand prescriptive hearing aids from one of the world’s six leading manufacturers (Oticon, ReSound, Phonak, Signia, Starkey, or Widex), purchased through an in-person clinical provider other than us.

You might be a great fit if:

You’ve Recently Moved to Tulare County

You purchased quality hearing aids from a great clinic in another city or state, but now you’re local and you need a new clinical home. Welcome! We’d love to take over your care.

Your Previous Provider Can No Longer Serve You

  • Your former clinic closed

  • Your clinic lost its hearing aid provider and there’s no one there to help you anymore

  • You’re looking for a different standard of care from a new provider

You’re a VA Patient Looking for More

We have tremendous respect for the work the VA is trying to do for veterans’ hearing health. However, VA audiologists are stretched thin; they simply don’t have the time to create the kind of personalized, boutique hearing care experience that leads to optimal outcomes.

Creating optimal hearing care outcomes is exactly what we specialize in. If you’re a veteran who wants more, we’d be honored to provide you with exceptional audiological care.

Please note: The VA will not cover services at our clinic. Adoption services for veterans are provided on a fully out-of-pocket basis.

How the Adoption Process Works

We don’t just accept any hearing aid and call it done. Our process is thorough, transparent, and built entirely around you.

Serial Number Verification.

We contact the manufacturer directly to confirm the devices are registered in your name and review their service history. If the hearing aids are not assigned to you, it is very unlikely that we will be able to proceed.

Warranty Assessment.

We determine exactly how much of the manufacturer parts warranty remains on your devices.

Building Your Care Plan

Based on your remaining warranty, we build a bundled care plan tailored to you. The longer the plan, the higher the investment, and vice versa.

Choosing Your Plan at Your Appointment.

When we meet, you’ll choose between a bundled care plan or a pay-as-you-go arrangement. If you’re looking for a long-term audiological home, we strongly recommend the bundled option. Once you experience our level of care, we’re confident you’ll be a Visalia Hearing Center patient for life.

Pricing

As of May 2026, a bundled care plan covering both ears is priced at $890 per year. Prices are subject to change without notice.

Insurance & Billing

Please be aware that Visalia Hearing Center does not bill insurance of any kind for Adoption Program services. All adoption services are provided on a fully out-of-pocket basis.

The only exception is Workers’ Compensation cases. If you are an injured worker who has previously been fitted with hearing aids and is seeking a new provider, please contact your claims adjuster and ask them to reach out to our office directly. If an agreement can be reached, we will be glad to take over your care.
